EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Indianapolis freshman forward Jocelyn Evans scored three minutes into the first overtime period to hand the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team a tough 1-0 loss Friday evening at Strassweg Field.

USI (5-3-1, 3-3-1 GLVC) controlled the pace of play throughout regulation, gaining a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal in the first 90 minutes.

Evans, though, broke away from a USI defender and sent a shot across the reach of a diving Jackie Lohmann and into the back corner of the net for the game-winner.

The Screaming Eagles had their opportunities early in the match as junior forward Katelan Carneal saw a shot at point-blank range turned away by UIndy goalie Megan Fee 20 minutes into the opening period. Later in the period, freshman forward Gabriella Korte  had a shot deflected away by Fee before missing wide on a header moments later.

Lohmann, who recorded three saves in goal for the Eagles, had a herculean effort late in the first period as she jumped to deflect a ball over the net that threatened to break the scoreless tie.

USI returns to action Sunday at noon when it hosts Saint Joseph's College in its "Kick for the Cure" match at Strassweg Field. Fans are encouraged to join the Eagles by wearing pink to help raise breast cancer awareness.
