USI drops regular season finale, 3-0 (UPDATED)

Eagles eliminated from post-season play

LOUISIVILLE, Ky.  – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team dropped the 2013 season finale, 3-0, at Bellarmine University Wednesday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI sees its record fall to 9-7-1 overall and 7-7-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Bellarmine rises to 11-5-2 overall and 10-4-1 in the conference.
 
With the loss and a victory by McKendree University over the University of Illinois Springfield,  the Screaming Eagles were eliminated from post-season play in the GLVC Tournament. McKendree finished percentage points better that USI in the standings. 
 
The Eagles and the Knights battled back and forth through the first 45 minutes, resulting in a 0-0 tie at halftime.  The defensive struggle between the teams resulted in only five total shots, three by Bellarmine and two by USI.
 
The second half was all Bellarmine as the Knights scored three times for the victory. The Knights scored the eventual game winner at 56:45 before sealing the match with tallies at 71:22 and 85:32.
 
Overall, USI outshot Bellarmine, 14-12, while the Knights had the advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
