LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team concluded the 2013 season with a 2-1 victory at Bellarmine University Wednesday evening in Louisville, Kentucky. USI ends the season with a 7-7-3 overall, and 6-7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Bellarmine goes off to the post-season with a 8-5-4 overall and 6-5-4 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles were one of the hottest teams in the GLVC during the second half of the conference season, going 5-1-2 in the last eight matches.
After Bellarmine jumped out in front, 1-0, in the first five minutes, the Eagles responded with a pair of goals within 40 seconds of each other. USI junior midfielder
Caleb Mathers (Clarkston, Michigan) knotted the game, 1-1, at 24:19 off a cross from senior midfielder
Kevin Minor (Edwardsville, Indiana), while senior midfielder
Miles Durham (Madisonville, Kentucky) gave the Eagles the lead, 2-1, at 24:53 on a through ball at the top of the box.
USI's defense took over in the second half, shutting Bellarmine out over the last 45 minutes. USI senior goalkeeper
Jeffrey Neidlinger (Carmel, Indiana) recorded his career-best seventh win of the year, making three saves in the match. Neidlinger also finished the year with a career-best 55 saves.
The Eagles had the overall lead in the match in shots, 15-11, while the Knights had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-3.
