Eagles visit Saint Joseph's, UIndy




EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team visits Saint Joseph's College and No. 24 University of Indianapolis this weekend. Fresh off a pair of home victories, USI looks to keep its strong play going as it heads out on the road for the pair of Great Lake Valley Conference matches. The Screaming Eagles play Saint Joseph's Friday at 7 p.m. in Rensselaer, Indiana and UIndy Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT) in Indianapolis.
 
Current East Division standings: The Eagles (9-3, 3-1 GLVC) are second in the GLVC East Division volleyball standings, trailing Lewis University which holds the number one spot with 4-0 a conference record, 8-4 overall. The Greyhounds (7-5, 3-1 GLVC) and Pumas (4-9, 1-3 GLVC) are fourth and seventh, respectively. 
 
Heldman looks to break all-time record. Senior libero Kayla Heldman, who currently ranks second all-time at USI with 1,464 digs, needs just 27 digs to break the school's all-time record of 1,490. The Greenwood, Indiana native tallied 21 digs in both matches last weekend against Missouri S&T and Drury University.
 
Oberbroeckling leads conference in aces. Sophomore right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) leads the league in service aces with 10, averaging .59 per set. Last weekend, she totaled eight, with a season-high six service aces against Missouri S&T. Oberbroeckling has 21 total service aces under her belt for the 2013 season.
 
St. Joseph's notes: The Pumas split its home opener last weekend, sweeping William Jewell College and falling, 3-1, to Rockhurst University. Katherine Brown leads SJC with 108 kills for the season, averaging 2.63 per set. On defense, Alyssa Guarnaccia leads with 167 digs, averaging 3.71 per set.
 
Eagles vs. Pumas: USI leads 20-8 in the all-time series with Saint Joseph's College. Last season the Eagles were 2-0 with the Pumas, grabbing a 3-2 win on the road and then a, 3-0 sweep at the Physical Activities Center.
 
UIndy notes: The Greyhounds dropped to 24th in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll. UIndy went 2-0 in its home opener last weekend, beating Rockhurst and William Jewell in five sets. This week's GLVC/Baden Offensive Player of the Week, Meghan Binkerd, recorded a career-high 70 assists in UIndy's win against Rockhurst.
 
Eagles vs. Greyhounds: USI trails the all-time series with the Greyhounds, 21-17. The Eagles fell twice last season to UIndy, 3-0 and 3-1.
