ST. LOUIS, Mo.  – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team allowed three first half goals and fell to Maryville University, 4-1, Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri. USI sees its record fall to 7-5-1 overall and 5-5-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Maryville gets its first win of the year and rises to 1-11-1 overall, 1-9-1 in the conference.

The Saints took advantage of an early Screaming Eagles foul in their own goal box and converted a penalty kick at 11:17. Maryville would tack on two more goals at 15:06 and 21:23 to lead convincingly, 3-0, at the intermission.

The Eagles continued to struggle offensively in the second half and did not get off a shot until more than 20 minutes had past after halftime.  USI junior forward Makenzie Brinker (Evansville, Indiana) broke the Eagles scoring drought with her third goal of the season at 77:51 to cut the Saints' lead to 3-1. Brinker was assisted on the play by freshman defender Gabriella Korte (St. Louis, Missouri).

Maryville responded with its fourth goal of the game at 84:23 to restore its three-goal lead, 4-1. USI was unable to mount another offensive surge in the last five minutes as the match concluded with the 4-1 final.

The Eagles conclude the four-game road swing Sunday at noon when they travel across city to the University of Missouri-St.Louis. USI returns to Strassweg Field for a final two-game regular season homestand October 25 and October 27, hosting Truman State University and Quincy University, respectively. The match with Quincy on October 27 is Senior Day for the Eagles.
