Eagles to play KWC in non-conference match

EVANSVILLE, Ind.— For the second time this season University of Southern Indiana senior libero Kayla Heldman has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baden Defensive Volleyball Player of the Week.
 
The Greenwood, Indiana native, who is the Eagles' all-time leader in career digs with 1,571 under her belt, guided the Screaming Eagles to a 3-0 record last week, averaging 5.75 digs per set.
 
Heldman racked up a season-high 31 digs in USI's 3-2 victory over Bellarmine University. She continued those efforts into Friday's three-set win over Lewis University, tallying a match-high 17 digs. Heldman finished with 21 digs in USI's final game of the week; a four-set win over Wisconsin-Parkside.
 
The Eagles (13-4, 7-2 GLVC) look to continue their winning streak when they host longtime-rival Kentucky Wesleyan College in a non-conference match Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Physical Activities Center.
  
Kentucky Wesleyan made the switch from the GLVC to the newly formed Great Midwest Athletic Conference in the fall, and currently holds a 15-3 overall record, 5-1 in G-MAC action. The Panthers are tied for first place in conference after a five-set win over Cedarville on Saturday.
 
Summer Alford leads KWC, as well as the G-MAC, with 176 kills, averaging 2.98 per set. Defensively, Hannah Hudnall is second in conference, leading the Panthers with 301 digs, averaging 4.56 per set.
 
Tuesday's meeting is the first since KWC made the switch to the G-MAC, with USI leading the all-time series, 43-1. The Eagles swept the Panthers, 3-0, twice last season, first at the PAC, then on the road.

Ticket prices for all USI regular-season home matches are $5 for adults (ages 18 and over) and $3 for non-USI students (ages 6-17).
