SOMERS, Wis. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team allowed a pair of first half goals and fell to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in Somers, Wisconsin USI sees its record fall to 7-4-1 overall, 5-4-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference, while UW-Parkside rises to 8-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the conference.
The loss puts the Screaming Eagles into a tie for sixth in the GLVC standings, deadlocked with William Jewell College; Lewis University; Drury University; and McKendree University. USI, which has split each of the last four weekends, has five games left on the GLVC schedule in 2013.
The top eight teams in the GLVC qualify for the league's post-season tournament. USI has the tie-breaker with Lewis and William Jewell, but Drury has the tie-breaker over the Eagles. The Eagles and McKendree tied in their meeting in September.
The Rangers attacked the Eagles defense early in the match, posting a two-goal lead 15 minutes into the contest. UW-Parkside's first goal came 2:50 in to the match, while extending the lead to 2-0 at 14:42. The lead would remain 2-0 through the intermission.
In the second half, the Rangers capped off the victory with a tally at 81:39 to give the match a final score of 3-0. UW-Parkside controlled the match from start to finish, out shooting USI, 21-6.
The highlight for the Eagles was sophomore goalkeeper
Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky), who made a career-high 10 saves.
USI begins the second half of a four-game road swing Friday when it travels to Maryville University for a 3:30 p.m. contest. The final match of the road trip is noon October 20 at the University of Missouri-St.Louis. The Eagles return to Strassweg Field for a final two-game regular season homestand October 25 and October 27, hosting Truman State University and Quincy University, respectively. USI's match with Quincy on October 27 is Senior Day for the Eagles.
