Natalie Geiger (Norwood, Ohio) scored with 2:10 second left in overtime as the Screaming Eagles defeated Lewis University, 1-0, Friday evening in Romeoville, Illinois. USI sees its record rise to 7-3-1 overall, 5-3-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Lewis falls to 6-4-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference.
Geiger scored the game winner at 97:50 off a throw in from senior forwar
Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri). The goal was Geiger's fourth of the year and has combined for three goals with Kohnen in the last two matches.
Between the posts for USI, sophomore goalkeeper
Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky) posted her six shutout of the season. Lohmann made four saves in recording her third shutout in the last four matches.
The Eagles outshot the Flyers, 13-9, overall, but Lewis had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-4.
USI complete the first half of a four-game road swing Sunday when it travels to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The Rangers rose to 7-2-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the GLVC after defeating the University of Illinois Springfield today in Somers, Wisconsin.
The Eagles return to Strassweg Field for a final two-game regular season homestand, hosting Truman State University and Quincy University October 25 and 27, respectively. USI's match with Quincy on October 27 is Senior Day for the Eagles.
