QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team lost its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener to 21
st-ranked Quincy University, 1-0, Friday night in Quincy, Illinois. USI falls to 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 3-0-0, 1-0-0 GLVC.
The Hawks scored the only goal of the match at the 9:00 mark of the first half as the teams traded chances the rest of the way. Quincy out shot USI, 11-10, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-5.
The Screaming Eagles had the majority of the chances in the second half, leading in shots, 5-2, and corner kicks, 4-0. USI had three-straight corner kicks between 80:00 and 81:50, but could not find the back of the Quincy goal.
The Eagles conclude their GLVC-opening road swing Sunday in Springfield, Illinois, when they visit the University of Illinois Springfield. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. USI returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field September 14 when it hosts the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
