EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team soared above the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 3-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI rises 4-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 GLVC, while UW-Parkside falls to 2-4-1, 1-4-0 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles struck first with a goal at 12:46 when senior forward
Austin Andrekus (St. Charles, Illinois) scored off a pass from senior defender
Danny Pratte (Florissant, Missouri). The goal was Andrekus' second of the season. The score would remain 1-0 through the intermission.
In the second half, USI held onto its 1-0 lead until 58:41 when UW-Parkside scored to tie the match.
The Eagles would respond four minutes later with their second goal of the match when Pratte sent a rocket into the back of the goal from 25 yards. The unassisted, game-winning goal was Pratte's first of the year and gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
USI would seal the victory at 73:08 when junior midfielder
Kevin Minor (Edwardsville, Illinois) scored on pass from Andrekus to make the score, 3-1. The goal was Minor's second of the season.
In goal for the Eagles, junior
Jeffrey Neidlinger (Carmel, Indiana) evened his record at 3-3-0 with the victory. Neidlinger allowed the single Ranger tally and made five saves while facing seven shots.
The Eagles conclude their longest homestand of the season at noon Sunday when they host Lewis University. The Flyers rose to 5-2-0, 3-2-0 GLVC defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 1-0, in double-overtime this evening in Owensboro, Kentucky.
The USI-Lewis match-up also is the "Go for the Gold" Day for the Eagles. USI will be wearing gold jersey's to promote childhood cancer awareness.
