EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – University of Southern Indiana junior midfielder Miles Durham (Madisonville, Kentucky) scored twice, including the game-winning goal, to help the Screaming Eagles to a 4-1 victory over Oakland City University Saturday night at Strassweg Field. USI is 1-1-0 after the first weekend of action, while OCU opens the year 0-1-0.
 
Durham broke a 1-1 tie with his first goal of the game at 42:18, heading in a cross from freshman defender Brandon Potts (Henderson, Kentucky). The goal, which gave USI a 2-1 lead at the intermission, was Durham's first of the year, while the assist was Potts first as an Eagle.
 
The USI junior midfielder sealed the Eagles victory three minutes into the second half when he scored his second tally of the season off passes from Potts and freshman defender Andy Hamilton (Evansville, Indiana). The assist was Hamilton's first point as an Eagle.
 
The match did not start well for the Eagles as the Mighty Oaks scored first with a goal at 14:37. USI tied the score less than a minute later when senior midfielder Jeffrey McClure (Indianapolis, Indiana) converted a penalty kick at 15:24 to tie the game 1-1.
 
USI's final goal of the game came with seven seconds left on the clock when senior midfielder Austin Andrekus (St. Charles, Illinois) scored off a pass from sophomore forward Carlos Mayser (Santa Cruz, Bolivia). The goal was Andrekus' first of the year, while Mayser posted his first assist at USI.
 
Between the posts for USI, junior goalkeeper Jeffrey Neidlinger (Carmel, Indiana) allowed the one goal and made three saves to get his first win of the season. USI out shot OCU, 18-5, in the match and had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
 
USI hits the road next week to open Great Lakes Valley Conference action, beginning September 7 at Quincy University. The Eagles conclude the first weekend of GLVC play September 9 at the University of Illinois Springfield before coming home September 14 to host the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
