EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Former University of Southern Indiana All-American baseball player Darin Mastroianni made his debut with the Minnesota Twins Thursday night, starting in left field and and batting eighth against the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto. Mastroianni had made his Major League Baseball debut with the Blue Jays on August 24 last year.
A former GLVC Player of the Year, Mastroianni recorded his first major league base hit Friday evening against Toronto. He finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Minnesota's 7-6 victory over Toronto.
Mastroianni, who went 0-3 three in his first game with the Twins Thursday night, was hitting .346 with Triple-A Rochester with two doubles, two triples and 10 stolen bases in 19 games. He started the year with Minnesota's Double-A team in New Britain.
