EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Sophomore forward/center
Anna Hackert had 12 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough for the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team as the University of Evansville handed the Screaming Eagles a 65-47 setback in an exhibition game at the Ford Center.
The Eagles had the upper hand early in the contest, jumping out to an 18-12 advantage with more than 11 minutes to play in the opening period. Junior guard
Stephanie Carpenter drained a pair of three-pointers in the first nine minutes of the contest to help USI grab the early lead.
After the Purple Aces cut the Eagles' lead to two moments later, Hackert got a pair of buckets to fall as USI reclaimed a six-point edge.
USI led 27-21 with less than five minutes to play in the first half, but the Aces put together a 12-2 run to end the period and gain a 33-29 halftime advantage. UE carried that momentum into the early stages of the second half as it used an 8-1 spurt throughout the first three minutes to build a commanding 41-30 cushion.
Sophomore guard
Brierra Young hit a three-pointer with 10 minutes to play to bring the Eagles to within seven points (45-38), but UE answered with five straight points to extend its lead to 12.
Hackert's layup with less than three minutes to play brought the Eagles' to within nine points, but the Aces scored 10 straight points to end the contest and come away with the victory.
In addition to Hackert, the Eagles got eight points and four rebounds from sophomore guard
Taylor Stevenson as well as seven points from Carpenter and Young. Junior guard

Mary O'Keefe each added seven rebounds for the Eagles.
USI shot 40.0 percent from the field in the opening period, but was held to just six field goals and a .222 shooting percentage in the final 20 minutes.
