EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Seven University of Southern Indiana women's basketball players scored at least eight points Saturday afternoon as the Screaming Eagles cruised to a 94-58 victory over Kentucky State University in their home-opener at the Physical Activities Center.
Sophomore forward/centers
Anna Hackert and
Mary O'Keefe combined to score the first 12 points of the contest as the Eagles jumped out to a 19-2 lead eight minutes into the contest.
O'Keefe, who went 5-of-7 from the field in the first 20 minutes, scored 12 of her team-high 17 points in the first half as the Eagles forged a commanding 49-21 lead at the break.
The Eagles (3-0), who outrebounded the Thorobreds 48-33, shot 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the field and connected on 25-of-30 (.833) at the charity stripe as they posted their third consecutive double-digit victory.
In addition to O'Keefe, the Eagles got 16 points from sophomore guard
Taylor Stevenson, who was 6-of-7 from the field and 1-of-1 from downtown. Sophomore forward/center
Cayla Herbst added a career-high 13 points, while Hackert contributed 11 points and five rebounds.
USI also got nine points from junior guard
Stephanie Carpenter as well as eight points apiece from sophomore forward
Brooke Valentine and junior forward/center
Nicole Hazemi. Valentine also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
The Eagles, who recorded 24 assists and just 11 turnovers, return to action November 24 when they host Notre Dame College (Ohio) in the USI Thanksgiving Classic. Tip-off is slated for 2:30 p.m. at the PAC.
