EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Junior middle blocker
Emily Diedrich and sophomore outside hitter
Fawn Ryan combined for 29 kills and a .551 attacking percentage to lead the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-17 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the University of Illinois Springfield Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (9-9, 7-2 GLVC) hit .385 in the opener and .429 in the second stanza as it raced out to a two-set advantage. Diedrich, who hit .520 for the match, racked up 13 of her match-high 15 kills in the first two sets, including eight in the second game, to aid the Screaming Eagles.
Ryan, who hit .583 for the match, slammed down six of her 14 kills in the third set as the Eagles, who are 6-0 at the PAC this year, breezed to an eight-point win in the match-clinching game. USI, which hit .395 in the match, racked up 19 kills and a .375 hitting percentage in the final stanza.
In addition to Diedrich and Ryan, sophomore outside hitter
Lauren DeShaney added nine kills and a .444 attacking percentage. Junior setter
Jorae Bradbury had 20 assists in just two sets, while senior setter
Ashley King had 15 assists in the second frame.
USI, which has won nine of the last 11 matches to pull to the .500 mark for the first time this season, returns to action Friday when it competes at the Mizuno GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover in Aurora, Illinois. The Eagles, who find out who their opponents will be Sunday night, play twice Friday and once Saturday.
