EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's and women's soccer teams conclude the 2012 regular season in Owensboro, Kentucky, when they visit Kentucky Wesleyan College for a GLVC soccer doubleheader. Kick off for the men's game is 5:30 p.m., while the women's match starts at 7:45 p.m.
The doubleheader also marks the final time USI and KWC will match up in GLVC soccer.
The USI men's team (9-6-0, 8-5-0 GLVC), which has qualified for the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2003, enters the regular season finale hoping to get back on track after losing to Bellarmine University, 1-0, Sunday. The Screaming Eagles can earn a re-match with the Knights in the first round of the GLVC Tournament if they can finish fifth with a victory Wednesday and a William Jewell College loss to GLVC-leading Rockhurst University.
The USI women's team (9-6-1, 8-5-1 GLVC), which has earned a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the fourth-straight year, also is hoping to improve its seeding in the match with KWC. The Eagles, currently, are tied for sixth in the standings, but can clinch the sixth seed with a win over the Panthers and a loss by Lewis University to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
The first round of the GLVC Tournament, hosted by the top four seeds, is slated to kick-off October 28. The semifinals and championship matches are scheduled for November 2 and November 4 at the highest remaining seed after the first round.
The last time both USI soccer teams qualified for the GLVC Tournament was in 2000.
