EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team begins one of the toughest homestands of the season when it is visited by 20
th-ranked William Jewell College and 12
th-ranked Rockhurst University this weekend. The kick-off Friday versus WJC is 7:30 p.m., while the start time Sunday against Rockhurst is 2:30 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles (6-4-0, 5-3-0 GLVC) have been inconsistent the last two weekends, going 2-2-0 in the last four matches. USI, which is tied for fifth in the GLVC, kicked off last week's road trip on a high note, logging a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College, but fell short at the conclusion of the road swing, losing a 3-2 decision at the University of Indianapolis.
Senior forward
Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana) led the Eagles during the quick road trip with four points on a goal and two assists. She also is the USI season leader in points with 17 points on six goals and five assists.
Ellsperman's 17 points rank fourth in the GLVC, while her six goals and four assists are sixth and tied for sixth, respectively, in the league.
The Cardinals of WJC (9-1-0, 7-1-0 GLVC) are in the midst of a six-match winning streak and are coming off a sweep of the University of Illinois Springfield and Quincy University last weekend. WJC is led by junior forward Sarah Franklin, who is tied for the GLVC-lead with 22 points on nine goals and four assists.
USI lost the first ever meeting with WJC, 4-1, last year in Liberty, Missouri.
The Hawks of Rockhurst (8-0-1, 7-0-1 GLVC) have been on a roll in 2012 and is the only undefeated team in the GLVC. Rockhurst, which plays at Kentucky Wesleyan Friday before visiting USI, has won eight of its nine games with the only blemish on its record coming in the form of a double-overtime tie at Maryville University.
The Hawks lead the all-time series with the Eagles, 7-1-0, after defeating USI, 3-0, last year in Kansas City, Missouri. USI posted its only win over Rockhurst at Strassweg Field, 2-1, in 2010.
