LEBANON, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team concluded a three-match road-swing with a 3-0 victory over McKendree University Friday evening in Lebanon, Illinois. USI, which recorded a sweep of its road swing, rises to 9-5-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the GLVC, while McKendree goes to 7-5-2, 6-5-2 GLVC.
 
The Screaming Eagles remain sixth in the GLVC with the victory, a game-and-a-half behind fifth-place University of Wisconsin-Parkside and two games behind fourth-place Bellarmine University. A victory Sunday versus Bellarmine will clinch a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the fourth-straight year.
 
USI jumped out in front in the opening half with goals by freshman forward Madi Vellky (Dublin, Ohio) and senior forward Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana). The goal was Vellky's sixth of the season at 13:18, while Ellperman posted her team-high seventh of the season at 44:54. With her goal, Vellky has scored in three-straight matches.
 
In the second half, the Eagles increased the advantage to 3-0 when senior midfielder Paige Nuelle (St. Louis, Missouri) scored her second goal of the season at 59:58. The Eagles would then hold the Bearcats scoreless for the final 30 minutes to complete the 3-0 shutout.
 
Between the posts, freshman goalkeeper Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky) posted her fourth-straight shutout to get the win. Lohmann, who made three saves in the victory, has not allowed a goal in her last 403 minutes of action.
 
The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when they host Bellarmine for Senior Day. USI women's soccer also will be wearing pink jersey for “Kick for the Cure,” promoting awareness of breast cancer and support for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Bellarmine rose to 11-2-2 overall and 9-2-2 in the GLVC after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3-0, at home this afternoon.
 
USI concludes the 2012 regular season October 24 at 7:45 p.m. in Owensboro, Kentucky, when it takes on Kentucky Wesleyan College.
