LEBANON, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team completed its three-match road swing with a 4-2 victory Friday evening at McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois. USI rises to 9-5-0 overall and 8-4-0 in the GLVC, while McKendree goes to 8-7-0, 6-7-0 GLVC.

The victory keeps USI in fifth place in the GLVC and its hopes alive of hosting a GLVC Tournament first round match for the first time since 2003. The Screaming Eagles are a half-game behind fourth-place William Jewell College, who defeated Missouri University of Science & Technology tonight.

In a high-scoring first half, the Eagles built a 3-1 lead and had to hold on to take a 3-2 lead into the intermission. USI senior forward Jeffrey McClure (Indianapolis, Indiana) gave USI a pair of leads, 1-0 and 2-1, on his 10th and 11th goals of the season. McClure scored his first of the match at 7:36 for the 1-0 advantage and gave the Eagles the lead back at 27:07 for the 2-1 margin.

USI sophomore midfielder Miles Durham (Madisonville, Kentucky) scored his third goal of the season to give the Eagles their largest lead of the half, 3-1, at 39:28. The Bearcats cut the Eagles' lead in half at 42:49 and provided the 3-2 halftime score.

In the second half, USI regained its two-goal advantage when junior midfielder Carlos Mayser (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) scored at 70:51. The goal was Mayser's second of the year.

Following USI's fourth goal, the Eagles' defense stepped up and held the Bearcats to only three shots in the final 20 minutes, one of the chances on-goal. USI outshot McKendree overall, 22-16, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-2.

The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field Sunday at noon when they host Bellarmine University for Senior Day. Bellarmine, which trails USI by a half-game in the GLVC standings, moved to 8-4-3 overall and 7-3-3 in the GLVC with a 5-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan College at home this afternoon.

USI completes the 2012 regular season October 24 when it travels to Owensboro, Kentucky, to play the Panthers of KWC at 5:30 p.m.
