Eagles fall to #7 Panthers, 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Southern of Southern Indiana men's soccer team lost to seventh-ranked Drury University, 2-1, Friday evening in Springfield, Missouri. USI, which is starting a three-match road trip, falls to 8-5-0 overall and 7-4-0 in the GLVC, while Drury goes to 10-1-2, 8-1-2 GLVC.
 
The Panther produced a 1-0 lead by halftime with a goal at 22:35. Drury would hold onto that lead until the start of the second half.
 
USI senior midfielder Austin Andrekus (St. Charles, Illinois) tied the score, 1-1, at 47:50 of the second half off passes from senior midfielder Jeffrey McClure (Indianapolis, Indiana) and junior defender Nick DeSalvatore (Brentwood, Tennessee). The goal was Andrekus' fifth of the year.
 
Drury would respond at the 71:20 mark to take a 2-1 advantage with the eventual game winning goal. The Eagles had two more shots on-goal in the final 20 minutes, but could find the back of the Panther's goal. 
 
 USI outshot Drury, 11-8, in the match, while the Panthers had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5.
 
The Eagles continue their three-match road swing Sunday in Rolla, Missouri, when they visit Missouri University of Science and Technology. The Miners are 7-4-2 overall and 6-4-1 in the GLVC after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 4-0, at home tonight.
