EVANSVILLE. Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team lost at home for the first time in 2011, dropping a 2-1 decision to the University of Indianapolis Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 3-6-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the GLVC, while UIndy goes to 6-3-0, 4-2-0 GLVC.
The Greyhounds struck for the first goal of the match in the opening minutes, scoring at 1:01. The score would remain 1-0 through the intermission. The Screaming Eagles had the greater amount of opportunities in the first 45 minutes, out shooting the Greyhounds, 11-8, and posting an edge in corner kicks, 5-1.
UIndy upped its lead to 2-0 when it scored the eventual game-winning goal 8:52 into the second half. USI would cut the deficit in half with just over five minutes to play when junior forward
Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana) found the back of the Greyhound goal on a penalty kick.
The match would finish with the 2-1 score as the Eagles would not get another shot on-goal in the final minutes. USI did out shoot UIndy, 20-17, and held an advantage in corner kicks, 10-4.
The Eagles finish the short two-match homestand and try to break a three-match losing streak Sunday at noon when they host Saint Joseph's College. SJC fell to 2-7-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the GLVC with a 1-0 loss at Kentucky Wesleyan College this afternoon.
