Eagles continue to struggle on the road

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team scored in a road game, but dropped a 4-1 decision at William Jewell College Sunday afternoon in Liberty, Missouri. USI falls to 3-5-1 overall and 3-3-0 in the GLVC, while WJC goes to 5-3-0, 3-3-0 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles continue to struggle on the road in 2011. USI is 0-5-1 in its six road matches, while posting 3-0-0 mark at home.

The Cardinals jumped out in front, 1-0, in the first half with a goal in the third minute. They outshot the Eagles, 10-4, overall and 5-1 in shots on-goal during the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, WJC increased its lead to 3-0 with goals in the 72nd and 77th minutes. USI freshman Maura Hulme (Westerville, Ohio) put the Eagles on the scoreboard with an unassisted, free kick goal in the 79th minute. The goal was Hulme's first as a collegiate.

The Cardinals re-established control and finished the scoring with their fourth goal in the 88th minute, giving the game its 4-1 final score.

The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field for a pair of matches next weekend. USI is scheduled to host the University of Indianapolis Friday at 5 p.m. and Saint Joseph's College Sunday at noon.
