Eagles grounded by Lions

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team was grounded by the University of North Alabama, 3-0, Wednesday night in Florence, Alabama. USI falls to 1-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 on the road, while UNA rises to 5-1-0 in 2011.

After the half hour delay to the kickoff due to lightning, the Lions roared out of the gate with three first half goals. The first two goals came within minutes of each other at 5:57 and 9:18. UNA finished its first half scoring at the 31:59 mark and went into the intermission with a 3-0 advantage. 

UNA, which outshot USI, 8-3, in the first half, continued to control the match in the half by outshooting the Screaming Eagles, 9-2. The Lions also had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field Friday at 5 p.m. when it resumes GLVC action against Missouri University of Science & Technology. USI completes the short two-match homestand Sunday when it hosts Drury University at noon.
