BOX SCORE

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – University of Southern Indiana sophomore third baseman Reece Rounder (Evansville, Indiana) drove in the game-winning run with his first hit of the season as the 24th-ranked Screaming Eagles defeated the University of Montevallo, 3-2, Sunday afternoon. USI broke its three-game losing streak and raised its record to 3-5, while Montevallo falls to 8-6.

The Falcons jumped out in front early with a tally in the third and the fourth and led 2-0 after four innings. The Eagles cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth when senior first baseman Adam Enright (Hammond, Indiana) singled in senior leftfielder Michael Huling (South Bend, Indiana) to make the score 2-1.

The Enright-Huling combination struck again in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score, 2-2. Enright drove in Huling with USI's second run on a one-out sacrifice fly. The score would remain tied until the ninth.

USI senior shortstop Brad Vance (Louisville, Kentucky) singled to lead off the ninth and advanced to second on a ground out by Huling. The Falcons intentionally walked senior pitcher/designated hitter Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois) and loaded the bases when they allowed Enright to reach on an error.

This set the stage for Rounder, who drove in Vance with the game-winner with a one-out single to right field.

On the mound, senior right-hander Taylor Dennis (Covington, Indiana) got into the win column for the first time this season. Dennis (1-1) pitched a scoreless two-thirds in the ninth to give the Eagles a chance at the win.

Choate went the first seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs, one earned in his first start of the year. Marcacci followed Choate to the mound, pitching 1.1 before giving way to Dennis in the ninth.

The Eagles resume action March 4 when they host the Dunn Hospitality Tournament. The tournament will feature 19 games in 13 days at the USI Baseball Field.
