ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—Despite 11 saves from junior goalkeeper
Ben Dempsey, the University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team suffered its sixth one-goal loss of the season Friday night, this time a tough 2-1 decision to host Lewis University.
The Screaming Eagles (1-9-1, 0-8-1 GLVC), who trailed 1-0 following a Lewis goal in the 23rd minute of the contest, tied the match at 1-1 less than three minutes into the second half when sophomore midfielder
Nick DeSalvatore snuck a shot past Lewis goalkeeper Alec Pickett.
Following DeSalvatore's second goal of the year, the Eagles kept pace with the Flyers (5-6-0, 5-4-0 GLVC) for nearly 30 minutes. Lewis, however, was awarded a penalty kick in the 76th minute, one that the Flyers converted into a 2-1 lead as Aloisio Barros found the back of the net for his third tally of the season.
The Eagles, who were outshot 22-7, could not get a shot off in the final 15 minutes of the match as Lewis held on for the one-goal victory.
USI returns to action Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when it travels to Somers, Wisconsin, to take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Audio for Sunday's match can be accessed at
