Brinker scores in overtime to lift Eagles

BOX SCORE

EVANSVILLE. Ind. – University of Southern Indiana freshman forward Makenzie Brinker (Evansville, Indiana) headed in a corner kick 5:24 into overtime to lift the Screaming Eagles to a 1-0 Senior Day victory over Quincy University Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI rises to 8-7-2 overall and 8-5-1 in the GLVC, while Quincy dropped to 13-4-0, 10-4-0 GLVC.

After the Eagles and the Hawks battled through more than 95 minutes of scoreless soccer, Brinker converted her second shot of the day for the “sudden victory” goal. She was assisted on her fourth goal of the season by senior forward Meagan Kempf (Evansville, Indiana), who lofted a corner kick into the box.

Quincy seemed to have the advantage for the most of the match, out shooting USI, 22-5. USI senior goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana) stood tall against the Quincy offensive attack, making nine saves to record her sixth shutout of the season.

The victory maintains USI's hold on sixth in the GLVC standings, a half-game ahead of the University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds kept pace with the Eagles by defeating William Jewell College, 2-1. UIndy concludes its season Wednesday by hosting Saint Joseph's College.

Prior to today's match, USI honored its five seniors -- Bodamer, Kempf, Carrie Grochowski, Lavonia Lewis, and Sam Smith.

The Eagles conclude the homestand and the 2011 regular season Wednesday at 5 p.m. when they host Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Panthers went to 1-12-1 overall and 1-12-1 in the GLVC with a 1-1 double overtime tie with the University of Illinois Springfield this afternoon.
