Eagles move up GLVC standings with 1-0 win

EVANSVILLE. Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team made a first half goal stand up as it defeated the University of Illinois Springfield, 1-0, Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI rose to 7-7-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the GLVC, while Illinois Springfield dropped to 4-9-1, 3-9-1 GLVC.
 
The victory catapulted the Screaming Eagles from a tie for eighth in the GLVC standings to sixth. USI's hold on the sixth spot is a slim half-game over the University of Indianapolis and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  
 
USI sophomore forward Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri) broke up a scoreless first half with an unassisted goal at 36:03. The goal was Kohnen's fourth of the year and tied her for the team lead with junior forward Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana).
 
The Screaming Eagles' defense stood tall in the second half as the Prairie Stars had a 6-2 shot advantage. USI senior goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana) made three second half saves and four in the match to preserve her fifth shutout of the season.
 
The Eagles hit the midway mark of the homestand at noon Sunday when they host Quincy University for Senior Day. The Hawk rose to 13-3-0 overall and 10-3-0 in the GLVC after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 1-0, in Owensboro, Kentucky, this afternoon.
