EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team wasted little time dispatching Great Lakes Valley Conference newcomer William Jewell College Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles racked up 43 kills and posted a .282 attacking percentage as they cruised to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-14 victory over the visiting Cardinals.
USI (9-5, 7-2 GLVC) had seven kills in the first 13 rallies of the contest as it jumped out to quick 10-3 advantage in the opening set. The Eagles used a 6-1 spurt later in the frame to win the opening game and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Eagles and Cardinals (9-5, 5-4 GLVC) traded blows early in the second frame before USI went on a 5-0 spurt to build a 12-7 advantage. The Eagles attacked at a .289 pace and held the Cardinals to a .122 attacking percentage in the second stanza as they extended their lead in the match to two sets.
USI hit .306 and used an 8-2 run as it cruised to an 11-point win in the final frame and the three-set victory.

Danielle LaGrange led the Eagles with a match-high 12 kills, while freshman outside hitter
Lauren DeShaney hammered down 11 kills and hit .400. Sophomore middle blocker
Emily Diedrich added eight kills, a .500 attacking percentage, and five blocks, while sophomore setter
Jorae Bradbury had a match-high 34 assists.

Krista Coccaro added 17 and 10 digs, respectively, for the Eagles, who have won three of their last four matches.
The win also puts USI Head Coach
Leah Mercer within one victory of tying the program's all-time wins record. Mercer, who is 114-84 in seven years at the helm of the USI volleyball program, trails her former coach Kelly Boyd, who was 115-109 from 1992-99.
USI returns to action Saturday when it travels to Rolla, Missouri, to take on GLVC West Division leader Missouri University of Science & Technology. Match time is slated for 5 p.m.
