Kohnen scores game winner
BOX SCORE
EVANSVILLE. Ind. – University of Southern Indiana sophomore forward
Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri) scored the game-winning goal with 5:08 left in the second “sudden victory” overtime to give the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 victory over Saint Joseph's College Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI breaks its three-match losing streak and rises to 4-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the GLVC, while SJC falls to 2-8-0, 1-7-0 GLVC.
Kohnen scored the game winner from just inside the box off a pass from sophomore midfielder
Jessica Scott (Louisville, Kentucky). The goal was Kohnen's second of the season.
The Pumas struck for the first goal of the match with 1:32 left before halftime and took the 1-0 lead into the intermission. USI had the momentum for most of the first half, out shooting SJC, 10-4, but was unable to find the back of the Pumas' goal.
The Eagles evened the score at 1-1 at 67:43 of the second half when junior forward
Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana) recorded her third goal of the season. She was assisted on the play by freshman defender
Maura Hulme (Westerville, Ohio), who sent the ball into the box on a restart.
The Eagles go on the road for the next four matches in the GLVC. The road trip starts Friday at 5 p.m. in Romeoville, Illinois, when USI visits Lewis University.
