Eagles come home for three matches

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field for a three-match homestand to conclude the 2011 regular season. The Screaming Eagles kick off the homestand Friday at 5 p.m. against the University of Illinois Springfield and have Senior Day Sunday at noon versus Quincy University.

Match coverage, including live stats, can be found at gousieagles.com.

The Screaming Eagles (6-7-2, 6-5-1 GLVC) enter the final stretch of the regular season in control of their destiny as they try to lock down one of the final berths in the GLVC Tournament. USI, which is tied for eighth with Lewis University in the current GLVC standings, can secure a spot in the tournament with three-straight wins or by matching the Flyers win-for-win in the final week of the season. The Eagles earned the tiebreaker over the Flyers two weeks ago with a 2-1 overtime win.

USI also is a half-game behind seventh-place University of Missouri-St. Louis and a game-and-a-half behind sixth-place University of Indianapolis. Both UMSL and UIndy, however, hold the tiebreaker over USI.

The Prairie Stars of UIS (4-8-1, 3-8-1 GLVC) have stumbled since the end of September, losing five of their last six matches. USI is 2-0 against UIS since it joined the GLVC.

Quincy (12-3-0, 9-3-0 GLVC), who plays at Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday afternoon before visiting the Eagles, enters the weekend looking to clinch home-field for a first round match in the GLVC Tournament. The Hawks are currently third in the GLVC, a half-game ahead of fourth-place University of Wisconsin-Parkside and a game back of second-place Bellarmine University.

USI trails Quincy in the all-time series, 9-5-1, and has lost the last three meetings with the Hawks.

KWC (1-11-0, 1-11-0 GLVC) is the final regular season opponent for USI in 2011 and comes to Strassweg Field on October 26. The Eagles are a perfect 13-0-0 all-time against the Panthers.
