USI hopes to continue momentum

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team hopes to carry over the momentum from its first GLVC win of the year this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri, when it travels to Maryville University Friday and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday.  Kick off Friday is 1 p.m. at Maryville, while Sunday is a 2:30 p.m. start at UMSL.

Match coverage, including live stats, can be found at gousieagles.com.

The Screaming Eagles picked up their first GLVC win of the season last Sunday when sophomore forward Rush Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky) scored five minutes into the extra period to defeat the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 1-0.  Junior goalkeeper Ben Dempsey (Evansville, Indiana) also shined in goal, making five saves in the conference win. The victory stopped USI's winless streak in the GLVC at nine.

For the season, junior midfielder Jeffrey McClure (Indianapolis, Indiana) leads the Eagles in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist. Dugger, who has a pair of goals this season, and junior midfielder Austin Andrekus (St. Charles, Illinois), who has one goal and two assists, are tied for second with four points each in 2011.

The Saints of Maryville (3-9-1, 2-8-0 GLVC) have struggled the last two weeks in the GLVC, losing three straight matches. Maryville also has lost eight of its last nine.

USI leads the all-time series with Maryville, 2-1-0, after taking last year's match, 2-1, in St. Louis.

The Tritons of UMSL (5-4-3, 4-4-2 GLVC), who hosts Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday night before welcoming the Eagles on Sunday, have been up and down in 2011. UMSL started the year 2-0-3 before sandwiching a three-match winning streak between a pair of back-to-back losses.

UMSL has historically been a thorn in USI's side, leading the all-time series 17-4-1. The Tritons have won the last two meetings and taken six of the last seven matches.

After this weekend's conference road trip, USI completes the five-match road swing October 19 at Oakland City University before returning to Strassweg Field for a season-ending, three-game homestand.
