USI dominates OCU, 7-0

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team got back on track with a dominating shutout of Oakland City University, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon in Oakland City, Indiana. USI rises to 2-1-0 overall, while OCU falls to 0-3-0.

The Screaming Eagles flew out to a 4-0 advantage in the first half, beginning with freshman midfielder Julia Kohnen's first collegiate goal at 22:42. Kohnen's goal was followed by tallies by junior forward Meagan Kempf and a pair of goals by sophomore midfielder Paige Nuelle.
USI sealed the victory with a three-goal second half with Kohnen and Kempf scoring their second goals of the game. Freshman forward Sam Houston finished the scoring for the Eagles' seventh goal of the match.
Sophomore forward Susan Ellsperman and freshman defender Tess Faulkner aided the USI offensive outburst with two assists each in the match.  Kempf and Nuelle also had one assist each in the win.
The Eagles outshot the Mighty Oaks, 34-6, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-1.
Between the posts, junior goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer and freshman goalkeeper Levyn Bertram combined to shutout OCU. Bodamer made two saves in her 57 minutes between the posts.
The Eagles continues its four-game road swing back in GLVC play Friday when they travel to Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana. The road trip concludes Sunday at the University of Indianapolis for an 11 a.m.  (CDT) match-up.
