USI hosts tough opponents this weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team has a chance to move up in the GLVC standings this week when it returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles are scheduled to host Drury University Friday at 5 p.m. and conclud the short homestand against Rockurst University Sunday at noon.
 
USI (5-4-0, 3-4-0 GLVC) is at the halfway mark of the 2010 GLVC campaign and is a game-and-a-half away from a spot in the GLVC Tournament. The squad is coming off of a road trip split, but has won two of the last three matches.
 
Leading the way during the road trip to Quincy University and the University of Illinois-Springfield, was freshman forward Andrew Rosenberg (New Albany, Indiana),who had a pair of goals against the Hawks and one assist in the win over the Prairie Stars. Rosenberg is third on the team this season with seven points on three goals and one assist.
 
Senior forward Simon Rawnsley (England) leads the team with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Senior midfielder Michael Simcock (England) follows Rawnsley in the points column with eight on a pair of goals and a team-high four assists.
 
Drury (5-3-0, 4-2-0 GLVC) enters this week's action tied for third in the GLVC after losing two of its last three matches. The Panthers split last weekend, defeating Maryville University in overtime, 3-2, and falling to Missouri University of Science and Technology, 1-0.
 
The Panthers have been a thorn in the Eagles' side since joining the conference and leads the all-time series, 6-0-1.
 
Rockhurst (4-2-1, 3-2-1 GLVC), who plays at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday, has struggled in its last four matches, going 1-2-1. The Hawks, who are one of the three teams that are a game-and-a-half ahead of USI in the conference standings, lead the all-time series with the Eagles, 9-0-2.
