EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of the Physical Activities Center Tuesday when it hosts Kentucky Wesleyan College at 7 p.m. The Screaming Eagles also host Maryville University Friday at 7 p.m. before finishing the week in Florence, Alabama, Sunday at 1 p.m. against the University of North Alabama.
USI (7-5, 2-2 GLVC) is coming off a hard-fought, five-set road win over Drury University this past Saturday and is looking to gain momentum as it hosts the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers for the first time since 2007.
Senior outside hitter
Brittani Oliver and junior middle blocker
Danielle LaGrange continue to lead the Eagles offensively. Oliver is averaging 3.00 kills per set and has a team-best .284 attacking percentage, while LaGrange leads the Eagles with 3.52 kills per set and is tied for the team lead with 0.59 blocks per frame.
Oliver had 14 kills, 17 digs, and a .333 attacking percentage in the win over Drury, while LaGrange racked up a team-high 22 kills to go along with a .302 attacking clip against Drury.
Senior defensive specialist
Janae Curnutt is closing in on a milestone as she is just 56 digs away from becoming the eighth player in school history to reach 1,000 in her career. Curnutt, who is fourth on the team with 2.07 digs per set, is six digs shy of passing
Melanie Pund for 10th all-time at USI.
The Eagles are 38-1 since 1989 against Kentucky Wesleyan and have won 26 straight dating back to the 1995 season.
The Panthers (4-6, 0-4 GLVC), who went 1-2 last week with a win at Oakland City University and losses at Drury and Rockhurst University, have lost five-of-six since beginning the season with a 3-1 record.
Maryville (0-14, 0-4 GLVC) is looking for its first win of the season after suffering home losses to Bellarmine University, Northern Kentucky University, and William Jewell College.
USI leads the all-time series with Maryville, 2-0, after posting 3-0 victories over the Saints in each of the last two seasons. Maryville hosts Lincoln Christian University Tuesday before visiting the Eagles Friday.
The Eagles are 1-6 since 1989 against North Alabama and are looking to snap a three-match skid to the Gulf South Conference foe. The Lions (8-4), who defeated the Eagles in four sets in 2008, have won two straight matches and seven-of-nine and host The University of Alabama-Huntsville Tuesday night before USI's visit on Sunday.
