KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Rockhurst University attacked at a .275 clip as it handed the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team a 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 setback in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday night.
USI (6-5, 1-2 GLVC) trailed by a single tally late in the opening set, but a 4-2 run allowed the Hawks to turn back the Screaming Eagles' charge and grab a 1-0 lead in the match.
Rockhurst (11-2, 2-1 GLVC) used a 6-0 run midway through the second set to build a 19-11 lead. The Hawks hit .417 in the second frame as they built a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Eagles trailed by six late in the third set before using a 7-2 run to cut Rockhurst's lead to 24-23. Rockhurst, however, got a kill from junior outside hitter Maggie McGovern to end the Eagles' comeback bid and give the Hawks the two-point win in the final frame.
McGovern and junior right side hitter Mary Walczuk each finished with a match-high 14 kills to lead the Hawks, while senior outside hitter
Brittani Oliver finished with a team-best eight kills and nine digs to lead the Eagles.

Janae Curnutt matched Oliver with a team-best nine digs.
USI returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. when it travels to Springfield, Missouri, to take on Drury University. The Panthers defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3-0, Friday night to improve to 12-4 overall, 3-0 in the GLVC.
