Eagles out flown by Hawks, 2-1

QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team could not comeback from an early 2-0 deficit and lost at Quincy University, 2-1, Friday evening. USI falls to 5-3-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the GLVC, while Quincy rises to 5-1-1, 3-0-2 GLVC.
The Hawks struck first at 8:12 of the first half and scored the eventual game winner 10 minutes later at 18:23. The Screaming Eagles tried to get back into the game in the final moments of the first half when junior forward Nancy Newcomer (Parma Heights, Ohio) scored with less than a second on the clock.
Newcomer scored her fourth goal of year off a cross from sophomore forward Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana). The fourth goal of the season ties Newcomer with junior forward Meagan Kempf (Evansville, Indiana) for the team lead.
The 2-1 first half lead would stand up for Quincy as both teams were held scoreless in the second half.
The Hawks outshot the Eagles in the first half, 12-2, but was held to a 5-2 advantage in the final 45 minutes. Quincy also had a 7-5 lead in corner kicks.
The Eagles complete the two-game road swing at noon Sunday when they travel to the University of Illinois-Springfield. The Prairie Stars entered tonight's action  0-6-0, 0-5-0 GLVC before hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College.
