EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Bellarmine University rallied from a pair of one-set deficits to defeat the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 27-25 Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.
The Screaming Eagles (6-4, 1-1 GLVC) served for match-point five times in an epic fifth set that saw 23 ties and 10 lead changes.
After each team failed to convert on match-point several times, it was the Knights (6-4, 2-0 GLVC) who got a kill from freshman outside hitter Krista Gibson before capitalizing on errant overpass by USI to end the final frame.
Gibson finished with 18 kills while senior outside hitter Emily Beckhman had a match-high 22 kills to lead the Knights to their first victory over the Eagles in the last 15 meetings, a streak that dated back to the 1999 season.

Brittani Oliver paced the Eagles with 16 kills, 14 digs, and a .390 attacking percentage, while junior middle blocker
Danielle LaGrange added 12 kills and a match-high five blocks.

As a team, the Eagles finished with a .137 attacking percentage after opening the match with a .333 clip in the first set. The Knights, who hit .206 during the match, held USI to a .106 attacking percentage throughout the final four sets.
USI returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. when it travels to Kansas City, Missouri, to take on Rockhurst University. The Eagles return to the PAC September 28 to take on Kentucky Wesleyan College.
