EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team scored in the opening minutes and held on to defeat Lewis University, 1-0, Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record to 5-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the GLVC, while Lewis falls to 2-3-0, 2-2-0 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles struck in the opening minutes with the only goal of the match. Junior forward Nancy Newcomer (Parma Heights, Ohio) scored her third goal of the year at the 2:34 mark off a crossing pass from sophomore forward Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana).

USI's lone goal was Newcomer's second straight game-winner and she has scored the last three goals for the team in the last two matches (1-0 versus Lewis and 2-0 versus the University of Indianapolis).

Between the posts, junior goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana) won her fifth game and recorded her fourth shutout of the year. Bodamer, who has a 0.53 goals against average this fall, faced 11 shots and made six saves to get the win.  

The Eagles conclude the short two-game homestand Sunday when they host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 2:30 p.m. The Rangers improved to 4-1-0, 4-0-0 GLVC, after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3-0, Friday afternoon.
