Eagles hit the road to restart GLVC action

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The 12th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team hits the road to restart GLVC action when it travels to Saint Joseph's College Sunday and the University of Illinois-Springfield Tuesday. Game time at Saint Joseph's is 3 p.m., while tip off at UI-Springfield is 7:30 p.m.

USI (9-1, 1-1 GLVC) is coming off a sweep of its games in the Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament, defeating Harris-Stowe State University, 105-76, and pulling out a last second victory over St. Catharine College, 65-64. Senior center Mohamed Ntumba (Kinshasa, Congo) and senior guard C.J. Trotter (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) led the squad with 16.0 points per game in the two contests. Ntumba also averaged a double-double with 10 rebounds in each game.

For the season, Trotter is leading the Eagles with 16.6 points per game. Ntumba is second with 13.4 points per contest and is grabbing a team-best 8.0 boards per outing.

The Pumas of Saint Joseph's (5-5, 1-1 GLVC) pulled themselves back to the .500 mark with their current three-game winning streak. SJC sophomore guard Dayvon Sloan leads the Pumas with 14.9 points per game.

USI leads the all-time series, 44-20, after defeating Saint Joseph's, 103-77, last year at the Physical Activities Center. The Eagles also are 4-3 against the Pumas in the last seven games in Rensselaer, Indiana.

The Prairie Stars of UI-Springfield (4-5, 0-2 GLVC) has not played since January 18 when they broke a four-game losing streak with a win over Eureka College. UIS junior forward Michael Fakuade leads the 'Stars with 16.4 points per outing.

The Eagles lead the all-time series, 4-1, after defeating the Prairie Stars, 110-68, last year at the PAC. This game will be the first visit to UI-Springfield by USI in basketball.
