EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team hits the road in the conference this week and hopes to travel up the GLVC standings. USI travels to Maryville University Friday for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off and finishes the road swing at Missouri University of Science & Technology Sunday for a noon start.
The Screaming Eagles (8-3-0, 6-3-0 GLVC) were perfect at home last weekend with the program's first wins over Drury University and Rockhurst University. The two victories put USI in the middle of an exciting three-game winning streak with the first two wins coming in overtime and last win in the final 30 seconds.
Junior forward
Meagan Kempf (Evansville, Indiana) leads the Eagles during the winning streak with four points on game-winning goals against University of Illinois-Springfield and Drury. Kempf also leads the team this fall with 16 total points on a team-high six goals and four assists.
Kempf is followed in the scoring column by junior forward
Nancy Newcomer (Parma Heights, Ohio) and sophomore forward Susuan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana). Newcomer is second on the team with 10 points on five goals, while Ellsperman has a eight points on a team-high eight assists.
Ellsperman's eight assists also rank first in the GLVC and second in the NCAA Division II. She also ranks 10th nationally in assists per match.
Between the posts, junior goalkeeper
Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana) has tied her career-high with eight victories (8-3-0) and has five shutouts. She also has 0.93 goals against average in 11 matches and 971 minutes.
Maryville (2-6-2, 2-5-1 GLVC) is winless in its last four matches, going 0-3-1. The Saints only had one match last weekend, losing, 2-0, at home to Missouri S&T.
Maryville won the first-ever meeting with USI, 4-0, last year at Strassweg Field.
Missouri S&T (5-3-0, 5-3-0 GLVC) is one game behind USI in the GLVC standings after sweeping a road trip last weekend. The Miners defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 2-1, last weekend, in addition to their win over Maryville.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Miners, 5-3-0, after defeating Missouri S&T, 1-0, last year at Strassweg Field. USI also is 3-2-0 against Missouri S&T since the Miners joined the GLVC.
