Sam Houston (Lafayette, Indiana) scored with 30 seconds remaining to give the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 victory over Rockhurst University Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record to 8-3-0 overall and 6-3-0 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst falls to 7-3-1, 5-2-1 GLVC.
Houston headed in the game-winning goal off a long cross from sophomore defender
Jessica Gates (Crown Point, Indiana). The goal was Houston's third of the season, while the assist was Gates' first of the year.
USI had the early lead when freshman forward
Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri) scored at 20:24 to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Kohnen was assisted on her third goal of the year by sophomore forward
Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana). Ellsperman has a team-high and nationally ranked eight assists this year.
The Eagles would hold the 1-0 lead until the 54:50 mark when the Hawks knotted the scoreboard at 1-1. USI missed a chance to retake the lead at 78:35 when junior forward
Meagan Kempf (Evansville, Indiana) had her penalty kick stopped by Rockhurst goalkeeper Lucy Sullivan.

The Eagles hit the road next week in the GLVC when they travel to Maryville University October 8 and to the Missouri University of Science & Technology October 10. The next home game for the Eagles is October 15 when they host Urbana University.
