EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team earned the right to host a first round match in the GLVC Tournament with a 2-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI closes out the regular season 12-5-1 overall and 10-3-1 in the GLVC, while KWC concludes its 2010 campaign 4-12-0, 2-12-0 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles will host Bellarmine University October 31 at 1p.m. to start the GLVC Tournament. USI is hosting a GLVC Tournament first round match for the first time since 2000.
The first round tournament game between the Eagles and the Knights will be a rematch of Friday night when the teams battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Strassweg Field. Bellarmine finished its regular season 10-4-2 overall and 9-3-2 in the GLVC.
In the win over KWC, the Eagles took the lead midway through the first half when sophomore forward
Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana) found the back of the net for the third time this season and the eventual game-winning goal. Sophomore defender
Jessica Gates (Crown Point, Indiana) assisted Ellsperman on the goal, knocking a restart into the box.
After the intermission, the Eagles increased the margin to 2-0 at 50:57 on Gates' first goal of the year. Gates was assisted by freshman forward
Jessica Scott (Louisville, Kentucky).
Between the posts, junior goalkeeper
Stephanie Bodamer (Highland, Indiana) posted her career-best seventh shutout of the year. Bodamer made two saves in recording her career-high 12th win of the year.
