Danielle LaGrange racked up 18 kills and a .424 attacking percentage, but it was not enough as No. 16 Lewis University overcame a one-set deficit to defeat the Screaming Eagles 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-13 in a GLVC volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.
The Eagles (13-10, 6-4 GLVC) hit .303 and used a late 3-0 spurt to take a four-point decision in the opening set and build a 1-0 lead in the match.
Lewis (19-4, 9-1 GLVC), which is fourth in the NCAA II Midwest Region rankings and sitting atop the GLVC standings, battled back in the second set. The Flyers hit .444 while using an 8-1 run midway through the stanza to take a seven-point win in the second frame and even the match a 1-1.
USI overcame an early four-point deficit and a late three-point hole to get to within a single digit of the Flyers in the third set. Lewis senior outside hitter Lauren Seliga ended the Eagles' short burst however as she hammered down one of her match-high 19 kills to give Lewis a two-point decision and 2-1 lead in the match.
The Flyers, who hit .320 overall, used a 9-2 spurt midway through the final frame to turn a slim one-point advantage into a commanding 16-8 lead. Lewis racked up a .350 attacking percentage in the fourth set, while holding USI to a .065 attacking clip, as it ran away with a 12-point win to clinch the victory.
In addition to LaGrange, who added three blocks to go with her 18 kills, the Eagles got 10 kills and 14 digs from senior outside hitter
Brittani Oliver as well as eight kills and five blocks from senior right side hitter

The Eagles return to action Friday when they visit Missouri University of Science & Technology. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. in Rolla, Missouri.
