EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 8-7-0 overall and 5-7-0 in the GLVC, while UMSL goes to 8-5-2, 6-4-2 GLVC.
The Tritons opened the scoring in the first half forward Almin Sabotic scored the first of his three goals at 6:03. The score would remain 1-0 through the intermission.
In the second half, Sabotic gave the Tritons a 2-0 lead when he scored the eventual game winner at 46:48. The Screaming Eagles bounced back to cut the margin in half when USI freshman forward
Kory Clawson (Florissant, Missouri) scored an unassisted goal at 67:52.
The USI goal was Clawson's second of the year. The Eagles had only one more shot on-goal the rest of the way.
Sabotic would seal the match with his third goal of the afternoon at 87:07 for the 3-1 final.
The Eagles conclude 2010 regular season next weekend when they host Bellarmine University and Kentucky Wesleyan College. Kick off Friday night against Bellarmine is 5 p.m., while start time Sunday versus KWC is noon. The USI-KWC match-up also is Senior Day for the Eagles.
