USI upset by Urbana, 1-0

BOX SCORE: Urbana 1, USI 0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team was upset by Urbana University, 1-0, Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 10-4-0 this fall, while Urbana rises to 4-7-3.

The teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first 45 mintues, despite the Screaming Eagles out shooting the Blue Knights, 23-2. The Knights, however, would take advantage of their only shot on-goal of the match in the second half.

Urbana junior forward Brooke Shultz scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder Brooke Smith at 59:29 for the game-winning goal. The Knights would make that 1-0 lead stand up by holding the Eagles to just six shots in the second half.

USI dominated the match in every way except the scoreboard. The Eagles outshot the Knights overall, 29-4; led in shots on-goal, 13-1; and had the advantage in corner kicks, 16-1. Urbana sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Taucher was strong between the posts, making 13 saves.

The Eagles conclude their short two-game homestand Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis. UMSL rose to 7-4-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the GLVC after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 2-0, Friday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky.
