USI shuts out Drury, 1-0

Eagles' first-ever win over Panthers

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team recorded its first-ever win over Drury University, 1-0, Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI, which entered the match 0-6-1 all-time against the Panthers, raises its record to 6-4-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the GLVC, while Drury falls to 5-4-0, 4-3-0 GLVC.
USI sophomore forward Austin Andrekus (St. Charles, Illinois) scored the only goal of the match at 16:06 of the first half. Andrekus recorded his third goal of the season when he collected a loose ball 10 yards in front  Drury goal and shot into the lower right corner.
The lone goal would be all the Screaming Eagles would need for the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Ben Dempsey (Evansville, Indiana) saved all six of the Panthers'six shots on-goal and posted his first shutout of the season.
Overall, Drury out shot USI, 14-8, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3.
The Eagles concluded the short two-game home-stand Sunday at noon when they host Rockhurst University. The Hawks rose to 5-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 GLVC with a 5-0 win at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday.
