Men's Soccer ties OCU, 1-1, in double-overtime

BOX SCORE: USI 1, OCU 1 (2 ot)

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team allowed a late goal and had to settle for a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Oakland City University Wednesday afternoon in Oakland City, Indiana. USI's record goes to 3-5-1 overall, while OCU goes to 4-1-2 in 2009.

The Screaming Eagles got on the scoreboard 2:31 before halftime when freshman forward Jeff McClure recorded his fifth goal of the season to give USI a 1-0 lead. McClure was assisted on the play by senior midfielder Will Reid.

The score would remain 1-0 until 41 seconds left when the Eagles committed a foul in the penalty area and the Might Oaks were awarded a penalty kick. OCU midfielder Callum Grindlay converted the penalty kick to tie the score, 1-1, and send the match into overtime.

Both squads had several chances in both overtimes, but the USI freshman goalkeeper Ben Dempsey and OCU's Graham Vance did not allow a shot to reach the back of their respective goal.

The next action for the Eagles will be on the road in the GLVC when they travel to Rockhurst University Friday for a 7:30 p.m. contest and Drury University Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off.
