EVANSVILLE, Ind.—A dominating first-half performance followed by a goal in the second half propelled the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team to a 1-0 upset victory over No. 14 Northern Kentucky University Thursday evening in the GLVC opener at Strassweg Field.

Freshman midfielder Paige Nuelle used a cross from sophomore forward Nancy Newcomer to score the match's only goal in the 61st minute, giving the Screaming Eagles a 1-0 lead.

USI (2-1-0, 1-0-0 GLVC) dominated the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the visiting Norse 13-3. The Norse, though, turned the pressure on the Eagles' defense in the second period as they outshot USI, 9-3.

Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer, however, came up big for the Eagles in the final stanza as stopped four shots on goal. Bodamer finished the match with five saves as she recorded her first shutout of 2009.

As a team, the Eagles held the Norse without a shot for the last nine minutes of the contest as they defeated Northern Kentucky for the first time since 1999.

USI returns to action Sunday when it hosts NCAA Division I foe Western Illinois University. Kick-off is slated for noon at Strassweg Field.
