Men's Soccer loses heartbreaker to #2 NKU

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to second–ranked Northern Kentucky University Thursday evening at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 0-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLVC, while NKU goes to 3-0-0, 1-0-0 GLVC.

After a scoreless first half, USI recorded its first lead of the season on freshman forward Rush Dugger's first collegiate goal. Dugger gave the Screaming Eagles a 1-0 lead when he took a long pass from junior midfielder Michael Simcock and scored on a break away at 63:35.

The Norse bounced back to tie the game 1-1 at 82:17 when freshman defender Paul Andrews headed in a corner kick from sophomore forward Alex Oeswein. NKU got the game winner in overtime when junior forward Steve Beattie smack a restart into the right side of the goal.

Despite being saddled with the loss, USI goalkeeper Keenan Johnson played well between the posts. Johnson faced 20 NKU shots, 11 on-goal, and made nine saves.

USI will be idle for eight days before they restart GLVC action and its three-match homestand. The Eagles are scheduled to host the University of Indianapolis for the middle game of the homestand on September 11and concluded the three-match series with Saint Joseph's College on September 13.
