EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision in overtime to Quincy University Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 3-5-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the GLVC, while Quincy raises its record to 5-4-1, 4-2-0 GLVC.

The Hawks scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the “sudden victory” overtime period. QU forward Corey Eatherton beat USI freshman goalkeeper Keenan Johnson with his fourth goal of the season and for the win. Despite taking the loss, Johnson tied a season-best with nine saves during the match.

The Screaming Eagles had a chance to win the match with just over a minute to play in regulation, but the goal was called back due to an offsides violation.

Quincy had the advantage in the match by outshooting USI in total shots, 26-13, and shots on-goal, 9-4. The teams were even on corner kicks, 5-5.

USI will be on the road for the next three matches, starting Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest at Oakland City University. The Eagles return to GLVC action October 2 at Rockhurst University and October 4 at Drury University.

The final two-match homestand of the 2009 season is October 9 and October 11 when the Eagles host Missouri University of Science and Technology and Maryville University, respectively.
